The Fight

The Fight

The Fight In "The Fight" by Richard Wright, the nararator describes the time in which a new environment changed his personality and his appearence. He believes "Each new school meant a new area of life to be conquered." This quote proves why he changed. He only changed his image in order to fit in with the rest of the school's student body. He feels like he shouldn't back down from anything. If i were in his position, I wouldn't care about what people think. I am my own person and I don't have to fit in just to be noticed. There are many ways that I can get noticed. I just have to be myself. I agree in his sense because sometimes he has to fight to earn respect but he can always turn the other cheek and mind his own business. Personally, it hasn't happened to me yet because I'm focused on other things. I am not saying that I wont fight, I just feel it is pointless to fight. Besides it might escalate further then just a fight so prevent it from happening. It has happened to one of my friends. It was in elementary school when it happened. There was this bully who thought that he can get away with everything because his mom was the parent member. My friend was new to the school and wanted no trouble to happen. The bully approached him with an attitude and my friend wasn't having it so he said if you have a problem meet me after school and we can settle our differences. The whole news spread through the school so after school everybody was surrounding the fight like some rock concert and they saw the bully get his butt handed to him. In the end, fighting is never the answer. Fighting is acceptional verbally but it should not escalate to a point of physical confrontation. As said in the story "Fighting was now not necessary. I had been accepted." Its funny how one thing leads to another, this piece of jewelry changed his perception of how he is viewed in school, other ways are possible and everything in life has a way around it. You don't have to change yourself to be accepted in a new environment be yourself and people will like you for you overtime. m.medina812@gmail.com
